Mastering Remote Onboarding

In today’s digital workspace online HR practices have become a critical component of the hiring process. Set Clear Expectations

Preparation is Key

You can not simply welcome new employee with all the necessary equipment  at the office. Make sure that all the necessary equipment such as work laptop, phone or required software is shipped on time and arrives before the start date. We advise you to create a detailed onboarding schedule that outlines the first week or month, including virtual meetings with key team members, training sessions ect. This can help a new employee manage their own expectations and structure their integration into the company’s workflow.
 

Pre-onboarding

You can engage with employees before their official start date with pre-onboarding activities. Think about sending over a welcome video, a “welcome pack” or reading material that introduces them to the role and the team. These gestures can create a sense of belonging and excitement about their new journey.
 

Assign a Coach and Foster Team Integration

Think about assigning a coach or “buddy” that will help the new hire with picking up new information and help them navigate the unwritten rules and social norms of the company. Integrating into a team can be challenging without physical presence. Facilitate virtual introductions with team members and involve new hires in regular team meetings and virtual social events.

Make sure you got the right technology  set up. Utilize video conferencing tools and digital onboarding process that can automate and track the onboarding tasks.

Encourage new hires to provide feedback on their onboarding experience to constantly keep improving your onboarding process. This not only provides your organization with insights that can be used to improve the onboarding process for future employees, but also helps them feel valued.
