Sweden is the largest Nordic economy — and a market where employment is governed less by statute than by agreement. There is no statutory minimum wage: pay, pensions and insurances flow from collective agreements (kollektivavtal), and your first Swedish candidate will ask early whether you carry one and what occupational pension (tjänstepension, typically ITP) you offer. Add employer registration with Skatteverket, monthly PAYE reporting at individual level (AGI), 31.42% employer contributions and the LAS employment-protection rules, and companies that have already found their candidate lose weeks here — or improvise a setup that unravels at the first payslip.
There are two clean routes. If you have (or will build) a Swedish entity, a payroll service provider in Sweden runs the monthly payroll, AGI filings and registrations for you — a foreign company can even register as an employer with Skatteverket without a local entity. If you want none of that administration, an Employer of Record (EOR) employs your hire legally in Sweden while you direct the day-to-day work — what many US companies would call a PEO. The market for both is crowded and opaque; kollektivavtal coverage, pension handling and pricing vary enormously. And sooner or later a Swedish expansion also needs an employment lawyer for the contract, a tax advisor for the registrations and an accountant for the books. We vet all of it for you.
